NLP Trainers Training Certification Living the dream ! Terry McCoy runs his own NLP business in Liverpool. In this article he shares his journey which led to him becoming an NLP Trainer certified by John Grinder. I'm sure there are many reasons you're reading this article, maybe you're just starting out and in the process of making a decision on which practitioner course you want to take or you may be looking to take your NLP training to a higher level with more advanced and specialized training. Whatever your reasons I hope this brief account of my experiences with the NLP academy and the results of those experiences help you make the right choice for you. 16 years ago I was a commission only ‘senior financial consultant' in other words an Insurance salesman in Liverpool. We were encouraged to sell lots of insurance to make loads of money and ‘live the dream'. Now to cut a long one short, living the dream in this particular company meant having an ‘irrespective' attitude toward everything, no matter what the cost, in the pursuit of their version of success. If you didn't agree with their interpretation and you weren't willing to pay the price of their ‘success' then you were a failure, a "neg" which was someone who had a negative attitude in their view. Out of 80 plus people trying to live their dream about 4 or 5 were and the rest of us were broke. The motivation tactics within the company were as you would expect in the mid 80`s which had varying effects on us all. One thing it did for me personally was to make me more curious about how and why I tick the way I tick and why I was all tock and no action. So I started picking up books on Personal development, the usual stuff like the ‘7 habits' and ‘Success through a positive mental attitude' and some I even read! Two of the most memorable, at the time, were Unlimited power and Awaken the Giant, now say what you like about Tony Robbins his books are very readable and at the time quite different to what was out there on the Pop Psychology shelves ,but what really struck me apart from his tremendous passion for what he does(by this time I'd listened to every tape of his I could get hold of) was his use of the same phrase "living the dream" and the way he lived his particular dream by inspiring others and getting paid for the pleasure! That was really living the dream! He was also trained by the guys who actually created NLP¬that must have been brilliant I thought "I wish I could do that..." Over the years I've been lucky enough to have trained with both creators and some of the leading names in NLP and I've been on some pretty cool courses and met some great people. The first course I attended with the NLP Academy was in 2003.Having already done my NLP practitioner, master practitioner and more related seminars than I care to remember, I felt it was time to do something a bit more ‘meaty' so I booked on the Real NLP modeling course with John Grinder and Carmen Bostic Sinclair and the Art of NLP Change with Michael Carroll on the basis of that first experience I enrolled on the New Code NLP seminar, again with John and Carmen. Since then I have enjoyed many courses hosted and lead by Michael at The NLP Academy, and both my unconscious mind and I still continue to be delightfully surprised at the results. If I was pushed for my personal favorites I would have to say NLP coaching with John Grinder and Carmen Bostic St Clair, Photo reading with Michael and Hypnosis 2 & 3 with John Overdurf and Julie Silverthorn. Interesting, enjoyable and without doubt they have had the most powerful effect on myself both personally and professionally, all this and the ultimate experience was yet to come.Trainer`s Training with the John Grinder! Having just come back from Hypnosis Trainer's training in America I was still in the zone so to speak when I came back to Croydon and the NLP Academy to start the first day of my NLP trainer's the next day. After saying "Hi" and catching up with familiar faces from previous courses, that`s another reason I enjoy training at the Academy everyone delegates and staff are so friendly. I'm certain the first day was a designed to lull us all into a false sense of security as it was a mix of New Code revision, presentation exercises and quality feedback sessions all good stuff. The second day went from 0 to ‘Full on' in seconds and from that day to this I'm just glad I'd done the courses I had in the past and sat another master practitioner and photo¬reading course.Incidently, If you find yourself with more books to read than you have time and you want your memory and comprehension to soar do a Photo reading course! TIP 1: Know your NLP! Might sound obvious but... We were told to expect surprises and those surprises could come in any form at any time during the course. I did. They did. I've heard many stories of how hard work Trainer training is, how tough the trainers are and how it was like "an SAS selection process!" Yes, we were worked hard, that should come as no surprise. John Grinder is very specific about what is and isn't NLP and how it's should be taught, he doesn't suffer fools and neither do Carmen Bostic or Michael Carroll. Along with their assistants they continuously and relentlessly tested our knowledge of NLP and added to it (worth the cost of the course alone!) and taxed our ability to maintain a resourceful state by challenging, directing and stretching us well beyond our individual comfort zones and at times it did get a bit too much for some. However, you would be hard pressed to find three more approachable people in the world of NLP.I don't know any other trainers with such a pedigree who come and have a beer with their students after a course! The most memorable part of the course for me was being the first to do a 20 minute presentation in front of a group of potential NLP trainers and including the man himself John Grinder - what a buzz - Brilliant! TIP 2: Maintain your state. WHATEVER HAPPENS! Receiving my certification at the 2005 Trainers training with John Grinder at the NLP Academy was one of the proudest days of my life. Now I'm half way through presenting my 2nd NLP Practitioner course, and I'm living my own dream that started with a wish. Now I get paid for doing what I love doing. Tomorrow I leave for Croydon and another course. Why do I choose to go back to the Academy time after time? Because the training is world class and people are top class. "Go on live your dream!"
